As part of their ongoing commitment to the Canberra community, staff from ACT Corrective Services contributed several trolley loads of food and other much needed items to the Anglicare “Food drive for the homeless”. Coming only a few months after the charity bike ride, which saw staff from ACT Corrective Services raise money for children through the Starlight Foundation, this latest charity initiative was co-ordinated by Ms Rosie Gaul, from the Governance Unit, who packaged up supplies as soon as they started overflowing the donation baskets and arranged for them to be safely conveyed to where they were needed most.…

Lead by a Scots piper, 32 recruits from four recruit classes marched into the Albert Hall on Friday 3 February 2012 and shortly afterwards graduated as officers in ACT Corrective Services.  The officers have now joined their colleagues working at the ACT's Alexander Maconochie Centre, Periodic Detention Centre and with the Court Transport Unit.

In addition to the graduates, Anthony Malone, Jane Curnow and Janine Bromwich each received an Executive Director's Commendation certificate for distinguished service and Michael Whilding received both an Executive Director's Commendation certificate for distinguished service and an Alexander Maconochie Medal.

The Chief Minister announced today, 21 November 2011, that Dr Chris Bourke would be appointed as the fifth Minister in Cabinet, becoming the Minister for Education and Training and would also, as of Wednesday 23 November, take over responsibility for the portfolio of Corrections in addition to that of Industrial Relations.

Dr Bourke will become the first Aboriginal Minister to serve in an ACT Government and will also take on responsibility for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Affairs.

Mr Corbell will remain Attorney -General and Minister for Police and Emergency Services.

 Attorney General, Simon Corbell, announced the appointment of Bernadette O’Connor as Executive Director of ACT Corrective Services.

“I am pleased to be able to announce the appointment of Bernadette O’Connor as the new Executive Director of ACT Corrective Services,” Mr Corbell said.

“Ms O’Connor comes at an important time in the development of ACT Corrective Services and the ongoing running of the Alexander Maconochie Centre.”

MINISTER THANKS OUTGOING CORRECTIONS DIRECTOR

The Attorney General, Mr Simon Corbell thanked the outgoing Executive Director of ACT Corrective Services, Mr James Ryan AM who is moving on after 14 years with the ACT Public Service.

"The Territory has benefited from the depth of knowledge that Mr Ryan has brought to this position as well as the advice and leadership he has shown in his areas of responsibility since 1997," Mr Corbell said.

Rachel Curtis participated in the 2010, 24 hour Relay For Life fund raiser for the Cancer Council ACT, held at the AIS athletics track at Bruce. 

The ACT Corrective Services Probation and Parole Officer volunteered as part of a relay team that circled the track for 24 hours to support relatives with cancer and to remember other relatives who have succumbed to the disease.

Staff from ACT Corrective Services, organised a premier Charity Bike Run on 13 and 14 February 2010. The event was hailed as a great success and planning for next years event is already underway. The Charity Bike Run raised an impressive total of $6,500 cash for the charity . In addition, a donation of 20 seats on a whale watching trip and Montague Island, worth $4000, was also contributed to enable the Foundation to take the kids out for an adventure cruise.
